5 Campervan Maintenance Tips For the Open Road

Tip #1 – 2 Services or More Per Year
Regular servicing is the cornerstone of a well-maintained camper, and it’s recommended that you have yours done twice a year – once with your MOT and another at the six-month point. If you’re a regular traveller, it’s also a good idea to get services every 2,000 miles. These basic checks are essential.
Tip #2 – Regular Tyre Checks
When you’re on the road for days or weeks at a time, your tyres can quickly become worn. As such, you need to keep on top of this by regularly checking that you’ve got plenty of tread and air in each tyre and that there are no bulges, cuts, cracks, or lumps. It’s also wise to change your camper tyres after 5-7 years, even if they still seem in good condition.
Tip #3 – Battery & Fluid Level Checks
Every couple of weeks or after a long journey, you should check your engine oil levels, as well as your coolant, screen wash, and antifreeze. Be sure also to check your battery if your camper hasn’t been out in a while, as it can become drained.
Tip #4 – Light Checks
While your campervan’s dashboard will usually tell you if you’ve got a light out, it’s still a good idea to physically check whether all of your lights are working. Also, look for cracks and dirt on the lenses and check all of your bulbs, including your fog lights.
Tip #5 – Hose & Belt Checks
When hoses burst, and belts break, they can bring your camper to a grinding halt. As such, you should inspect both for wear and tear so you can get them replaced proactively and avoid them losing their integrity while you’re out on the road.
